Child Development Center
Buckley AFB, CO

New Child Development Center for Buckley Air Force Base is a state-of the-art 22,000 sf facility. This facility was built with a structural steel frame and infill metal studs and finished with a brick veneer exterior and standing- seam metal roof.  The construction included new HVAC, plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems as well as a modern fire suppression/sprinkler system.

This project proudly achieved the stringent AFCESA and UFC design requirement standards for Air Force Child Development Centers in addition to meeting the Special Safety Considerations Manual EM 385-1-1 standard.  

Operating under the standards and accreditation requirements from the National Association for the Education of Young Children, the project goal was to construct a facility that would help each child develop his/her potential in a safe environment that created opportunity for enriching experiences.  The facility is designed to serve the physical, emotional and developmental needs of 150 children ages 6 weeks to 5 years.

  • Full-service Kitchen with a multi-purpose Dining Room/gathering area
  • 9 Classrooms with age appropriate design-build features
  • Radiant heat flooring in pre-toddler areas can maintain temperature of
  • 80 degrees for children crawling/playing at floor level 
  • Toddler accessible changing stations
  • Large outside playground with child-safe equipment and recycled rubber surfaces; individual, separated, age-appropriate play areas
  • Full administrative wing with specialized design-build features including four 50 inch plasma viewing screens in the entry to offer discrete classroom, new state-of-the-art communications and data system, video surveillance and monitoring system
